James Island Civil War Tours is a tour business unique in the South Carolina Low Country designed to introduce and expand the information base of Civil War enthusiasts and others through out the United State and internationally. JICW will take visitors through the timeline of the Civil War, where it started, and where it ended, to physically inspect the sites and locales on James Island, the surrounding waterways and historic Charleston.
This tour is available to school groups, historically focused educational courses and those in the wider community who celebrate the Island’s cultural and historic heritage. The James Island Civil War tour will focus national attention on James Island and the Low Country simultaneously with the Civil War Sesquicentennial to be commemorated through out the United States.
The tour package would be conducted over a three day period: Day One is the Civil War walking tour in Downtown Charleston, Day two is planned to be the centerpiece of the tour: a day long exploration of the sites that successfully played a key role in the Defense of Charleston. The highlight of this day would be a presentation by re-enactors of the Massachusetts 54th, with additional stories and learning opportunities at the recently restored Farmer’s and Fisherman’s Lodge Museum and finally Day Three, the Marsh Tour, a morning excursion in the salt marshes off James, Morris and Folly Islands to explore not only sites of Civil War significance, but the flora and fauna found in abundance in this area.
